Fr. CASIMIRO ROCA, SF., WELCOMES YOU!

In CHIMAYO, a small village off highways #76 and #520, around the hills of "El Potrero", in New Mexico, you will find
"El SANTUARIO DE NUESTRO SENOR DE ESQUIPULAS"
(The Shrine of Our Lord of Esquipulas).
Also called the "Lourdes of America."

A Spanish settlement was established in Chimayo soon after the reconquest of New Mexico in 1693. A chapel dedicated to "Nuestro Senor de Esquipulas" was constructed by don Bernardo Abeyta in 1813 in the area known as El Potrero. This chapel was donated to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe in 1929 and is the only designated archdiocesan pilgrimage shrine. Thousands of people visit this famous shrine yearly especially during Lent and Holy Week.

The first pastor was Rev. Casimiro Roca, S.F., who continues to minister to the thousands of pilgrims who visit the Santuario.

Holy Family Parish and its missions (the Shrine included) is administered by the Sons of the Holy Family.
